home-remedy-toefungusThere must be other ways to deal with toenail fungus than to take prescription medication via the mouth.  The fungus looks like it’s on the exterior.  Why aren’t there any treatments that can be used to target the fungus directly?  Well, below are some of the home remedies people have shared with one another to cure toenail fungus.

Listerine Mouthwash

Listerine mouthwash is helpful in getting rid of toenail fungus by soaking your toes for about 20 minutes in a basin with the mouthwash. Its medicinal properties would help limit the growth of fungi. It contains menthol and an antiseptic agent known as oil of thyme or thymol. Thymol has been proved as a good anti-fungal factor for applying for toenail fungal infections. It also contains astringent tannins which results for proteins in skin tissue to cross-link thereby creating an obstruction to infection (Balch and Rister 135). Hence Listerine for toenail fungus is essentially formulated with the antiseptic and so it is recommended for toenail fungus treatment with the consultation of the physician.

Vicks Vaporub

Though the effectiveness of using Vicks for curing of toenail fungus is not very clear, many have found that using Vicks relieves the affected toenails. Vicks is known for its ability to stop the growth of toenail fungus. You will have to apply Vicks VapoRub twice daily until the infected toenail grows out and a new one replaces it. It was found out that some of the essential oils in Vicks have anti-fungal action. And herbal experts recommend that such oils function synergistically. That is, the combined reaction is greater than that of any single element (Gradeon).

Garlic is a natural antibiotic that is powerful for a variety of applications, including the remedy of nail fungus. It is helpful to place several chopped cloves in the toes of your socks at night in the onset stages of the infection. It can also be applied in oil form right to the infected nail, or you may prefer to rub raw garlic around and on the nail for 30 minutes for a more targeted approach. The skin should be washed before and after applying the garlic. Moreover, garlic powder can also be used to fight toenail fungus. Simply dust an ample amount to get a healthy dose of this effective natural remedy (Group).
