Fact of the Week 3 – Skin Cancer
Skin Cancer is the most common of all the cancers. As a matter fact it accounts for almost 50% of all the cancers in the United States.
There are two main types of skin cancers: keratinocyte cancers (basal and squamous cell skin cancers) and melanomas.
Keratinocyte cancers are the most common as they develop from the most common cells in the skin called keratinocytes.
Melanomas are cancers that develop from the cells that give skin its color – melanocytes.
Staying alive in the dark – Making yourself visible
You are strolling down the sidewalk, all is dark and quiet. Off the distance you hear nothing but a dog bark. As you decide to make your way across the street, whoosh… that silent Prius nearly runs you over. As you try to collect yourself, you wonder, how come that car did not see me?
As technology advances, our existing notion of car sounds can trick us. Many drivers experience more limited eyesight in the dark than they do in the light. Making yourself visible is the one big thing we can do to stay alive!
When you are walking, jogging, running in the dark, you want to be prepared. Be prepared to be visible.
Reflective Vests – Reflective Vest is the best thing you can wear to make yourself visible. This is a must if you find yourself jogging in the dark often. These vests are generally light and are also designed to keep you warm.
