The face reddens and flakes while cracking and scaly skin can be seen around the elbows and knees. Once the flaky skin sets in and all moisture is lost, it can prove to be very difficult for individuals to restore the moisture all over again. Therefore, proper steps should be taken for preventing and avoiding dry skin in the first place. Following the below mentioned five steps can be immensely beneficial for those who don’t want to deal with dry skin:

1-     Moisturize the right way

Thorough care is needed in the case of dry skin, which is highly sensitive and it can worsen in the winter months. The use of commercial lotions and creams should be avoided in order to manage dry skin because these products usually contain petroleum and other harsh minerals. The best option for people is to use those skin care products and creams that are composed of hypoallergenic ingredients. Shea butter, coconut butter and virgin coconut oil are some naturally nourishing ingredients that can be used by people as they moisturize the skin deeply, heal it and prevent ageing.

2-     Avoid tap water

Tap water should not be used for washing dry skin because it comprises of fluoride, chlorine and other unwanted chemicals. Cold mineral water could be used instead. Cosmetic milk containing natural ingredients or alcohol-free cleaning toner or lotion can also be used. They will not cause any irritation and also refresh dry skin gently. Makeup and other impurities can be removed and pores can be refined and purified, leaving the dry skin soft, clean and hydrated.

3-     Use oatmeal soapdry-skin-solution

Reduce the amount of time you take for showering or bathing if you have dry skin. Scrubbing should be avoided and only the mildest soap should be used. Oatmeal soap can be used because it doesn’t irritate the skin and exfoliates it in the gentlest way possible. A towel should not be used on the skin for rubbing it after showering, but should be patted dry instead. Butter or natural oil should be applied on the skin when it is still moisturized. Most attention should be paid to the lower legs because skin in that area tends to get dry the most.

4-     Good oils

Don’t scratch if your skin is dry and itchy. Coconut oil and shea butter should be applied daily. Uncomfortable skin conditions can be caused because of dry skin such as eczema and augmenting the diet with essential oils like omega 3 fatty acids, raw organic butter, coconut oil and cod liver oil.

5-     Use a humidifier

Consider making an investment in a humidifier, especially in the dry and cold winter months. It should be placed in the area of the house where you tend to spend majority of your time. Dry skin condition can be improved to a huge extent because of the additional moisture in the air.
